  • Congratulations to our Employee of the Season - Djeran 29 April 2022 Congratulations to our Employee of the Season (Djeran) winner – Jane Moody, Administration Officer, PathWest Security, based at QEII. Jane was nominated by a lab colleague for going above and beyond to ensure lab staff have access to PPE, hand sanitiser and clean gowns to perform their work safely. Jane also logs and follows up maintenance requests and generally ensures facilities are maintained and repaired as required.   • COVIDTestWA is now live 27 April 2022 COVIDTestWA is asafe and securepre-registration system that enables upfront capture of patient information used across the public PCR testing process in WA. People presenting to our public PCR testing clinics can pre-register their detailsby scanning the QR code displayed on site or via this link.   • PathWest Star of the Future - Sam Neeling 27 April 2022 Samuel Neeling, Medical Scientist, Immunology, is one of the successful recipients of the PathWestEarly Career Research Awards that were awarded in February 2022. Sam's research project will be investigating “In-vitro measurement of the neutralising effect of anti-GMCSF or anti-IFN-γ antibodies on STAT phosphorylation using patient serum and donor peripheral blood mononuclear cells”. Sam explains his project as, “Cytokines and Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (STAT) proteins are important for mediating cellular immune function. GM-CSF and Interferon γ (IFN- γ) are crucial cytokines that act on monocytes via the JAK/STAT pathway. For those centres who usually open on Saturdays we are open on Saturday 16 April and our regular opening hours resume on Tuesday 19 April.   • PathWest Star of the Future - Daniel White 04 April 2022 Daniel White, Medical Scientist, Biochemistry, is one of the successful recipients of the Chief Pathologist Early Career Research Awards that were awarded at the PathWestConsultant Pathologists' Symposium inFebruary 2022. Daniel's research project will be investigating “Utilising Phosphatidylethanol (PEth) at patient triage will provide superior rate of detection of alcohol-induced injury than direct alcohol measurements alone”. Daniel explains his project as, “Detecting dangerous alcohol consumption can be quite difficult because current laboratory testing methods can only detect heavy drinking in the past 12-18 or so hours, or after damage has already been inflicted on the body from alcohol exposure.
