  • International Acclaim for PathWest Forensic Biology staff 05 February 2026 A publication co-authored by PathWest Forensic Biology staff members Anna Heavey (Senior Forensic Scientist in Charge-Quality, Training, Safety & Risk) and Gavin Turbett (Head of Department) has been selected as a 2025 Noteworthy Article for the prestigious Journal of Forensic Sciences. The Journal of Forensic Sciences is the official publication of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, which each year publishes a collection of Noteworthy Articles, representing the most impactful scientific articles published in the Journal during the previous calendar year. Since its inception in 1956, more than 70 volumes of the Journal of Forensic Sciences and hundreds of issues have been published.   • ANZPAA NIFS Best Paper Award Recipients - Forensic Biology 13 January 2023 The Forensic Biology Department received two awards in the 2022 Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA NIFS) Best Paper Awards – Best Technical Article, Note or Case Study and Best Literature Review (Quality Management). On Thursday 22 December 2022, A/Chief Executive, Sash Tomson met with the award recipients to congratulate them on their success in delivering world-class forensic services to the Western Australian community.   • Congratulations to our Employee of the Season - Djilba 07 October 2022 Congratulations to Employee of the Season (Djilba) winner – Rebecca Wake, A/General Manager COVID-19 Pre-Analytical Operations – COVID-19 Command. Rebecca has been with PathWest for many years as a medical scientist and then later stepped into senior roles in charge of a number of the laboratories. When COVID-19 struck, Rebecca assumed the responsibility of overseeing pre-analytical operations and guided the team (of up to 250 staff) through some truly challenging days.Rebecca is somebody who goes about her role with grace and commitment, and no matter how busy she is, she always has time to support and guide her staff and make them feel valued.   • Congratulations to our Employee of the Season - Djeran 29 April 2022 Congratulations to our Employee of the Season (Djeran) winner – Jane Moody, Administration Officer, PathWest Security, based at QEII. Jane was nominated by a lab colleague for going above and beyond to ensure lab staff have access to PPE, hand sanitiser and clean gowns to perform their work safely. Jane also logs and follows up maintenance requests and generally ensures facilities are maintained and repaired as required. The nominator said; “She does all this with a smile and enthusiastic attitude at all times, often while juggling other priorities”.   • COVIDTestWA is now live 27 April 2022 COVIDTestWA is asafe and securepre-registration system that enables upfront capture of patient information used across the public PCR testing process in WA. People presenting to our public PCR testing clinics can pre-register their detailsby scanning the QR code displayed on site or via this link. Completing COVIDTestWA online won’t let you skip the queue but the more people who complete it the faster everyone’s sample will be collected and processed, and it reduces direct individual patient contact times at the COVID clinics.
