More than 700 active clinical trials rely on PathWest laboratory services and expertise. A new $570,526.18 FHRI investment will strengthen the research infrastructure supporting discoveries across Western Australia.
From cancer genomics and rare diseases to infectious disease surveillance, clinical trials, biospecimens and specialist diagnostic testing, PathWest provides critical laboratory infrastructure that connects WA hospitals, universities, medical research institutes, government and industry.
That capability has been recognised through a $570,526.18 allocation from the Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund, Research Infrastructure Support 2026 program.
The investment will strengthen the infrastructure PathWest provides to researchers across the State, supporting the translation of scientific discoveries into new diagnostics, improved health services, public health impact and better outcomes for patients.
PathWest currently supports more than 700 active clinical trials through specialist pathology services and scientific expertise. Its statewide network also provides access to advanced genomics, specialist laboratory platforms, biospecimens, data and technical expertise needed by researchers across a wide range of disciplines.
PathWest's role in research extends beyond performing tests. As both a research-performing and research-enabling organisation, it helps bridge the gap between scientific discovery and implementation in the health system.
Our core research-enabling capabilities include:
- Advanced Genomics: Sequencing infrastructure supporting oncology, rare diseases, infectious diseases, and precision medicine.
- Essential Resources: Statewide laboratory infrastructure providing specialised testing, scientific expertise, data, and biospecimens.
- Real-World Impact: Driven translation that improves services, public health, and patient outcomes.
PathWest extends its gratitude to the Minister for Medical Research, the Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC, and the FHRI Fund for this allocation, which directly supports our State-spanning research operations.
