Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing
Important update for patients
Harmony Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT)
Effective from 30 July 2026
What is changing?
From 30 July 2026, PathWest will no longer collect Harmony NIPT requests through Australian Clinical Labs (ACL).
PathWest now works with Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS) for NIPT testing, and you will need a VCGS request form for your test to proceed at a PathWest collection centre.
Why can’t my collection proceed?
If you attend a PathWest collection centre with an ACL Harmony request form, we are unable to collect your blood sample because the form is no longer valid for PathWest testing.
Our collection staff are also unable to change or redirect test requests without instructions from your referring clinician.
We understand this may be disappointing or frustrating, particularly if you have travelled some distance.
What should I do next?
Please contact your referring doctor, midwife, or clinic as soon as possible. They will be able to:
-
Discuss appropriate NIPT options with you; and
-
Provide a VCGS request form so your test can proceed at PathWest.
Your referring clinician is best placed to guide on you the next steps.
Can PathWest change my request for me?
No. PathWest collection staff cannot change, replace, or redirect request forms.
We are required to follow approved testing processes to ensure safety and accuracy, and any changes must be made by your referring clinician.
Need more information?
If you have questions about your test or referral, please contact your referring doctor or clinic.
