NIPT referral pathway change
PathWest wishes to advise of an upcoming change to Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) referral pathways at PathWest, effective 30 July 2026.
Following an internal review, PathWest will transition to sending NIPT specimens exclusively to Victorian Clinical Genetics Services (VCGS).
What this means for referrers
- From 30 July 2026, Australian Clinical Labs (ACL) Harmony NIPT request forms will no longer be accepted at PathWest collection centres
- To request NIPT testing through PathWest, VCGS request forms must be used
- Referrers should review current referral practices and ensure appropriate VCGS request forms are provided to patients
- The PathWest Test Directory will be updated to reflect this change.
VCGS request forms can be ordered here: [insert link]
Patients presenting with ACL Harmony request forms
Patients who attend a PathWest collection centre with an ACL Harmony Request form on or after 30 July 2026 will be unable to proceed with collection.
They will be advised to contact their referring clinician to arrange an updated request form.
Please note that PathWest collection staff cannot amend or redirect request forms.
We recognise that this change may require adjustments to your current workflows and appreciate your support in ensuring patients are appropriately directed.
